Meriton has released plans for the next section of the massive Pagewood Green project in Sydney’s southeast – which will see townhouses built alongside high-rise towers.

The controversial Pagewood Green development is fast becoming the size of a small suburb next to Westfield Eastgardens and will boast more than 4000 apartments when complete.

It is the biggest project in Meriton’s history and is being built across two stages consisting mainly of high-rise towers.

The first stage is largely complete, featuring more than 1700 apartments, and a concept plan has been approved for the larger second stage.

Harry Triguboff’s company Meriton has begun lodging development applications for the various buildings which will make up stage two of the project including towers up to 20-storeys tall.

Last week Meriton lodged its latest development application to build 44 townhouses near the northern boundary of the Pagewood Green site.

The townhouses will be made up of three and four-bedroom homes if approved and will be located near the corner of Heffron Rd and Banks Ave.

Each townhouse will be two storeys.

Meriton bought 10.5ha of the Pagewood Green site for $140 million in 2013 and a further 6ha for $90 million in 2015.

The site was formerly an industrial area used by British American Tobacco and Holden.

The Pagewood Green project has proven hugely controversial within the community — being branded an overdevelopment which does not have the necessary infrastructure surrounding it.

A neighbouring council, Randwick Council, even voted in February to try and halt the development citing concerns about how it will impact local services and infrastructure.
