Matraville man arrested on child grooming charges

DETECTIVES have swooped in and arrested a Sydney man after he was caught allegedly using online services to meet a 13-year-old girl for sex.

A man will face court today after being charged by Strike Force Trawler detectives over the alleged online procurement of a child for sex.

DETECTIVES have swooped in and arrested a Sydney man after he was caught using online services to allegedly groom two young girls, including meeting up with a 13-year-old girl for sex.

Matraville-based Jeffrey Wilson, 63, was arrested on High Street, Penrith, just before 11am yesterday.

Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad detectives say they began engaging the man online in August 2018.

Police will allege in court that he believed he was speaking with the mother of a 10-year-old girl and spoke to her about sexual acts he wished to perform on the child.

On another occasion police will allege he believed he was speaking with a 13-year-old girl, engaging in highly-sexualised conversations, and making arrangements to meet with the child for sex.

Shortly after his arrest yesterday, a search warrant was executed at a Matraville home, where investigators seized a laptop, computer tower, a video camera, and electronic storage devices.

The man was taken to Penrith Police Station and charged with use carriage service to procure person under 16 years for sex and use carriage service transmit/publish/promote child pornography.

He was refused bail to appear at Penrith Local Court later today.
