MasterChef champion Larissa Takchi will be showing us how to cook her winning dish, sichuan pavlova, at Mascot Memorial Park on Saturday as part of the Bayside Food and Wine Festival.
Takchi won the 2019 MasterChef Australia title in June and at just 22 she was the youngest winner in the 11-year history of the popular reality TV cooking series.
The spicy sichuan and the delicate flavours of pavlova might sound like an odd combination but Takchi showed a penchant for odd flavour pairings on MasterChef, including a parsnip ice cream. “Sichuan comes from the Sichuan province in China,” Takchi said.
“It is a peppercorn, it has a citrusy note and when you eat it, it kind of tingles in your mouth.”
She said she was looking forward to bringing a bit of MasterChef to Mascot.
“This is the dish that won the MasterChef trophy and I think people are really eager to see how it is made,” Takchi said.
“People will be able to have a little taste and see for themselves why the judges really loved it.”
Takchi has six dishes in mind for the Bayside Food and Wine Festival. “I want to show as much as possible. This is my first cooking demonstration, ever, so I am kind of scared and excited.”
Mascot Memorial Park will be transformed into an outdoor food and wine market on Saturday from 3pm-9pm.
There will be live music, a wide selection of food, cocktail demonstrations from Firefli Bars and the chance to try craft beer, cellar door wines and boutique spirits. Stuart Gregor will MC the event.
