Mascot: Woman dies in crash between car and truck

A woman has died following a horror crash between a truck and a car near Mascot train station.

A woman has died following a crash between a truck and car at a Mascot intersection.

Emergency services were called to the crash site about 12.30pm on Wednesday at the corner of Coward St and Bourke St, near Mascot train station.

A woman was trapped inside the car for a short time before being released.

However, police confirmed she died at the scene.

The truck driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Prince of Wales Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

A NSW Ambulance spokesman said, following the crash, that the middle-aged woman had been critically injured and was being treated by paramedics.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area as traffic is heavy.

All westbound lanes of Coward St are closed between O’Riordan St and Bourke St.

One eastbound lane of Coward St is also closed and motorists are unable to turn right into Bourke St.

Additionally, bus routes 357, 400, 418 and 420 are being diverted away from the area.

Due to the serious nature of the crash, there is no forecast as to when all lanes will reopen.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.
