A MAN is due in court in connection with the brawl at a Bayside Liberal Party meeting last week.
Police were called to Naji’s cafe in Arncliffe on Monday June 18 just before 7pm.
On arrival officers saw a number of people run off.
They restrained one man before he allegedly pushed an officer and then also ran off.
A 37-year-old man suffered facial injuries in the brawl and was treated and taken to St George Hospital.
Following inquiries, detectives searched a home at Wollongong Road, Arncliffe, yesterday at midday.
Just after 2pm, a 27-year-old man attended St George Police Station where he was arrested.
The man was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of other(s), assault officer in execution of duty and resist officer in execution of duty.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court on Tuesday August 7 2018.
Bayside Liberal councillors Michael Nagi (Mascot ward), Paul Sedrak (Port Botany) and Ron Bezic (Bexley) were all at the meeting. However, there is no suggestion they were involved in the violence.
Liberal Party investigations continue into the brawl, which took place before a vote on the inclusion of the Earlwood-Kingsgrove Young Liberals into the Bayside Liberals group. The Courier understands the violence occurred between two rival factions, both vying for control of the group.
