Malabar Beach has been rated the joint dirtiest ocean beach in NSW.
The annual State of the Beach report has, for the first time since 2010, rated 85 per cent of NSW beaches as good or very good.
Coogee, Maroubra, South Maroubra, South Maroubra Rockpool and Little Bay Beaches were all ranked as good while Clovelly Beach was rated as very good.
Malabar was one of just two ocean beaches to get a poor rating — the other being Terrigal Beach on the Central Coast.
The study said the rating reflected elevated levels of enterococci after light rainfall.
Foreshores Beach, which is in Botany Bay next to the airport, was named the dirtiest beach of any kind in NSW.
However, there was good news for nearby Yarra Bay which is now rated as good having previously been poor.
