Long Bay jail: Prison employee charged for smuggling meth, steroids

A Long Bay Correctional Centre employee has been arrested and charged for smuggling contraband into the prison for inmates including meth and steroids.

A Long Bay Correctional Centre employee has been arrested and charged for smuggling contraband into the prison for inmates including meth and steroids.

Police allege the 27-year-old man trafficked about 45 packages including mobile phones, tobacco, methylamphetamine and steroids into the prison’s hospital in return for financial rewards of up to $12,000, from family members of inmates.

In July, Strike Force Perri was set up to investigate the introduction of contraband by a male officer at the Malabar prison.

The 27-year-old man, who is a Corrective Services NSW officer, was arrested at the prison on Friday morning and taken to Maroubra Police Station.

He has been charged with holder of public office misconduct, agent corruptly receive benefit, and knowingly deal with proceeds of crime.

The has been granted strict conditional bail to appear at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday, December 18.

He has been suspended by Corrective Services NSW.
