An “inexperienced” P-plater from Little Bay caught drink driving on a suspended licence has faced the wrath of a magistrate who was “appalled” by the young driver’s record.

Lola Tinkerbell Carr, 20, fronted Waverley Local Court on Wednesday, as she pleaded guilty to mid-range drink driving and drive motor vehicle while licence suspended.

According to an agreed set of police facts tendered to court, Carr was driving a white Toyota Hilux on Malabar Rd, Maroubra just after 4pm on October 21 last year, when she was stopped at a stationary breath testing site.

She was unable to produce a driver’s licence, telling police “I don’t have it with me. I’ve got a green P licence”.

Carr returned a positive result for a roadside breath test and she was arrested for further testing, recording a reading of 0.117.

Further inquiries by police found the 20-year-old held a P2 licence, however it was suspended for loss of demerit points which was extended due to the 20-year-old not having completed the traffic offender knowledge test.

She later revealed to police she drank two glasses of white wine with lunch at around 2pm the same day, and two vodka red bulls at the Matraville Hotel.

After finishing about 4.15pm, she planned on driving to Coogee.

On Wednesday, Magistrate Miranda Moody was frank in her assessment of Carr’s driving record.

“What a bad record, very bad record for a very inexperienced driver. [You were] drink driving mid-range when you had so little experience,” Magistrate said.

“I am really quite appalled.”

Carr’s lawyer, Lauren Brain, requested a non-conviction for her client, telling the court Carr had made a decision “at the age of 20” to become sober.

Magistrate Moody said “there is no way in God’s green earth” she would accept a non-conviction.

“She is a very big concern … very young … and already shows such disrespect for traffic legislation,” Magistrate Moody said.

“To her credit she’s already done the traffic offender’s program … I accept that she is extremely apologetic.”

Carr was convicted of both offences, fined a total of $1060 and disqualified from driving for three months.

She will also be required to fit an interlock device to her car for 12 months.
