Fallen former Western Sydney Wanderers star Kerem Bulut has had a major court win after allegations he threatened his father and uncle with a knife before throwing it in their direction were dropped.

The 31-year-old appeared at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday to defend charges of armed with intent to commit indictable offence, domestic violence related destroy or damage property and attempt stalk/intimidate intend fear of harm.

Court documents stated that police alleged in relation to the dropped charges that between 3am and 3.25am on June 10, Bulut was allegedly armed with a 30cm kitchen knife with intent to commit an indictable offence, being intimidation.

He is also alleged to have intentionally or recklessly damaged blinds and attempted to intimidate Suleyman and Sayit Bulut with the intention of causing them to fear physical harm.

The police prosecutor told the court the two complainants had been subpoenaed, although they were not present at court, before asking Magistrate David Price for an adjournment, saying it was in the “interest of justice” and a “serious domestic violence allegation”.

The court heard while Bulut was allegedly “armed with a knife”, he had made threats before throwing the knife “in the direction of the two complainants”.

Mr Price asked the prosecutor if the complainants had indicated whether they wanted to co-operate, prompting a reply that they weren’t “exactly forthcoming”.

The prosecutor told the court one of the complainants had agreed to a domestic violence video, which was recorded at the scene.

He also revealed the other complainant had provided a written statement “later on the in the piece”.

Bulut’s lawyer Ms Hunter said her client had spent time in custody and given he was ready to proceed with the matter, she asked that the adjournment be “refused”.

In assessing the adjournment application, Mr Price acknowledged Bulut had maintained his not guilty pleas and the two complainants, didn’t attend court for the hearing.

“It is unlikely that either of the [complainants] will attend voluntarily,” Mr Price said. “[Bulut] is alleged to have committed quite serious offences in relation to his father and his uncle.”

However, after Bulut agreed to a two-year AVO, without admission, prohibiting him from interacting with Suleyman or Sayit for 12 hours after drinking or taking any illicit drugs, Mr Price said it could give the court and community “some comfort” he had made progress with the complainants.

Mr Price “politely declined” the prosecution’s application and the charges were ultimately withdrawn.

The court heard Bulut was still in custody for a separate matter.

Before his soccer career ended in 2018, Bulut featured for several European clubs as well as the Wanderers and Australian youth sides.
