Joshua Lowe: Macquarie Uni student in court after Canterbury IED blast
A former Waverley College and now Macquarie Uni student has faced court over allegedly being heavily involved in a drug gang. He was one of nine arrested after an IED explosion at a woman’s home in Canterbury.

A former Waverley College student who is accused of being “heavily involved” in an alleged drug operation which police uncovered after the horror detonation of an IED at an innocent woman’s home has faced court.
Joshua Lowe, 19, from Malabar, is one of nine arrested after a police investigation following an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) made of sparklers, aerosol cans and thumb tacks that went off at a Sydney woman’s Canterbury home on June 8.
As a result of the blast Denise Lavell suffered serious burns to her face and body and police alleged it had the “real potential to kill.”

The Macquarie University commerce student was arrested in the early hours of August 13 after a special strike force raided multiple homes across Sydney.
Lowe has been charged with taking part in the supply of 320g of cannabis 24g of MDMA and 19g of cocaine as well as taking part in a criminal group and allegedly contributing to the criminal act at Canterbury and multiple drugs charges.
He was also charged with knowingly directing activities of a criminal group between 11.20 and 11.35pm in Canterbury on June 8.
According to police facts, he was found with drug manufacturing apparatus and pill encapsulator used for the making of MDMA between June 8 and August 11 in Zetland.
The court previously heard he was “heavily involved” in the organisation of the alleged drug supply including “setting up” drug transactions and runners.
His case was heard for a brief mention at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday where brief service orders were made.
Lowe who is in custody on remand will return to court in November.
