Police have charged a man with arson and trying to injure someone in a fire after a unit blaze in Sydney’s east.
Emergency services were called to Malabar Rd, South Coogee following calls about the fire about 3.35pm on Wednesday.
Firefighters form NSW Fire and Rescue quickly extinguished the fire inside the property.
No injuries were reported following the incident, according to NSW Police.
Eastern Beaches Police Area Command launched an investigation, suspecting the fire was lit deliberately.
James Patrick Ward-Collins, 31, was arrested and taken to the Maroubra Police Station.
He has been charged with damaging a property by fire with intent to injure, damaging property by fire and being in custody of a knife in a public place.
Police have sought an interim apprehended violence order (AVO) against Ward-Collins, court documents show.
Ward-Collins has been refused bail to face Waverley Local Court on August 28.
