Funding boost for breakfast club at La Perouse Public School
The breakfast club at La Perouse Public School which sees students given a healthy breakfast each morning before class has received a welcome boost — with funding and support secured for the next 12 months.

The breakfast club at La Perouse Public School which sees students given a healthy breakfast each morning before class has received a welcome boost — with funding and support secured for the next 12 months.
Principal Lisa Haller said the breakfast club, which had been running at the school since before she arrived, encouraged students to eat a healthy breakfast each morning.
All 54 children at the school are offered food such as fresh fruit, toast, cereal and juice at 8.30am each day free of charge.
“What is most important for us is encouraging the importance of having a healthy breakfast everyday and coming together and starting the day in a fun way.”
She said it also made sure no students fell through the cracks, who may have forgotten to eat on the way to school or whose families may find it hard to afford healthy breakfasts.
She added while the school has received strong support from the community to help run the breakfasts, help from Foodbank was welcome after they came on board last week.
Clovelly Community Branch of Bendigo Bank and Nova 96.9 donated $10,000 to cover the cost of delivering the food for a year through Foodbank, who supply the food donated by farmers and sellers.
It is estimated the school will go through 10,000 breakfasts during the next 12 months.
“(We) are proud to be helping Foodbank NSW and ACT deliver a healthy breakfast to the kids at La Perouse Public School,” Clovelly Community Branch of Bendigo Bank’s Nicola Powell said.
“We are extremely proud to be involved in this wonderful project.”
The bank and radio station spent $5000 each on the project, with the radio’s portion coming from an anonymous donor.
La Perouse Public School has almost doubled this year in student numbers, compared to last year, and is also playing a role in diverting food from ending up in landfill through the project with Foodbank.
