A Frenchman visiting Sydney on a working visa has faced court for supplying MDMA and ketamine at a dance party inside a Matraville warehouse.
Simon Alexandre Barberet, 25, was sentenced at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday for two counts of supply a prohibited drug (small quantity), possess a prohibited drug and deal with proceeds of crime.
Plain-clothed police arrested him at the back of the warehouse during the early hours of Sunday, August 11, after witnessing him making an exchange with another man.
He was searched and police found eight MDMA capsules, 7.1g ketamine and a small amount of cash and cannabis in his possession.
Magistrate Michael Crompton convicted the construction worker on all four offences and sentenced him to a community correction order for 12 months.
His defence argued Mr Barberet brought the drugs to the party simply for himself and his friends to enjoy.
However, the agreed facts said police “observed conversations on the accused’s phone suggesting supply of the drug MDMA shortly before police intervention”.
The charge of deal with proceeds of crime, which Mr Barberet pleaded guilty to, related to $200 in cash being found on the couch where Mr Barberet was spotted, before being arrested.
Mr Barberet was first seen by police loitering outside the warehouse but “walked quickly” inside and went to the back of the venue with another man.
The dance party was held in a warehouse on Perry St, Matraville.
