A former Rebels bikie was caught offending behind bars after making disturbing phone calls to his ex-partner.

Jamie Saliba, of Malabar, faced Waverley Local Court from custody where he pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching an apprehended violence order (AVO).

Magistrate Michael Barko convicted the 35-year-old and sentenced him to a supervised community correction order for 12 months.

Court documents state Saliba called his former partner from Silverwater Correctional Complex on November 10 last year.

“I’ve called you 20 times you f--king idiot,” he said. The ex-partner replied that he had not.

Mr Barko said Saliba had an extensive criminal history.

Saliba also said, “Check the phone you spastic c--t”.

The call was monitored by prison staff, who also found Saliba had called the ex-partner about a week prior, asking her to write an affidavit for him.

He instructed her to include details of the close relationship he shared with his Nan.

Staff alerted police of the AVO breaches.

Strike Force Alcatraz officers, who target inmates who continue to offend, requested audio transcripts from the jail which led to Saliba’s arrest.

At his court appearance on Tuesday, Mohammad Wafai argued one of the AVO breaches did not involve a threat.

“He simply wanted some information from his ex-partner that would help him with a legal case,” he said.

Mr Wafai said Saliba used “impolite language” during the second call but it was important for the court to consider the time he has spent in jail and the nature of his sentence.

Mr Barko said he “lost his emotional control” when he called his ex-partner. he also noted Saliba had a “horrible” criminal history, which included violent offences.
