An alleged “high-ranking member” of the infamous Bra Boys accused of directing a $12.6m US-Australia meth and cocaine importation ring had his charges mentioned in a Sydney court for the first time.

Evan Faulks, 38, was represented by his lawyer Gregory Goold at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday where his five charges, including commercial drug importation and directing a criminal group, were mentioned.

The crown prosecutor asked Deputy Chief Magistrate Theo Tsavdaridis for an eight-week adjournment, which was granted.

It comes after Faulks was arrested by Queensland Police on the Gold Coast on March 28, following an 18-month investigation into the alleged attempted importation of methylamphetamine and cocaine into NSW.

He was extradited to appear before Tweed Heads Local Court the following day, where he was formally refused bail.

Police will allege Faulks dealt with proceeds of crime of more than $839,000 “with the intention of concealing it” through a TAB betting account.

NSW Police, alongside Australian Border Force, launched Strike Force Madline in September 2021 after two “consignments” containing 6kg of drugs, were allegedly intercepted by the US Drug Enforcement Agency and US Customs in America.

It’s alleged the drugs were concealed in machinery and a stone bench top.

Police allege in court documents that from 2014 Faulks had been a “high-ranking member of the Bra Boys criminal organisation”.

In a Red Bull documentary from 2016, Faulks spoke about the difficulty of growing up in Maroubra, and later becoming a father.

The matter will return to court on May 31.
