A Jewish school in Randwick has plans to erect a new three-storey building to cater for its booming student roll.
Emanuel School on Stanley St boasts more than 820 students in years K-12 and has plans to expand to 860 students in coming years.
The co-ed school recently submitted a plan with Randwick Council to redevelop part of its campus to include a new state-of-the-art building.
If approved, the new building will feature 13 classrooms, three breakout areas, four meeting rooms as well as other facilities. The estimated cost of the project is $11.5 million.
“This development application seeks to replace the dated Adler Building with a modern three-storey building which provides new and modern teaching facilities aligned with contemporary teaching standards and methodologies,” the proposal read.
The new building will feature a bridge to another relatively new building at the school called the Innovation Centre, opened in 2018.
The proposal stated the school also wanted to increase its maximum student population to 920 students (including its preschool of 60 children).
An Emanuel School spokeswoman said the school had grown in recent years.
“Over the past decade we have experienced a significant increase in enrolments as has seen the trend with all schools in the eastern suburbs,” she said.
“Emanuel is the school of choice for many families. Emanuel students graduate with a strong social conscience and a compelling desire to contribute to the Jewish and wider communities.”
