‘Eastlakes will become foodie destination’

Welcome to the new East

THE new Eastlakes town centre will be a self-contained community that will revolutionise the way we live, the man behind the project has said.

Eastlakes Live will have 534 units along with a shopping centre, park, restaurants and bars, public amenities such as a childcare centre, library and swimming pool and a rooftop residents’ club.

Crown Group chairman Iwan Sunito said its quality restaurants, cafes and bars would ensure it becomes a foodie destination like The Grounds of Alexandria.

“With Eastlakes Live, we’re defining the community of the future, the way of future living,” he said.

The apartments will make the most of the natural light, the chief architect has said.

Mr Sunito said unlike other “average” developments in the area, his $1 billion project was about more than maximising profit.

“There are a lot of average developments in the area, I see a lot in Mascot — buildings that are built not with innovation, just built to budget,” he said.

“This is different.”

Prices for one-bedroom units will start in the mid-$600,000, with two bedrooms from low $1 million and three bedrooms from low to mid-$1 million. The four penthouses will be priced about $2 million.

The units will start from the mid $600,000 and go up to over $2 million.

Mr Sunito confirmed Aldi would be in the shopping centre as well as either Woolworths or Coles.

Mr Sunito said the shopping centre would be a thriving marketplace with quality food stalls, restaurants and bars much like the Cannery in Rosebery or The Grounds of Alexandria.

“We have looked at what we can do to create something like that,” he said. “The food offering is key and I think it will become a destination.”

The new town centre will be either side of Evans Ave, with Eastlakes Reserve to the west.

“Evans Ave will be the high street,” chief architect Richard Francis-Jones said.

“To the west, towards the parkland, there will be a great veranda with food and beverage outlets underneath. It will be up on a slight podium looking over the reserve. It will be a beautiful place to enjoy the evening.

“Sitting above the main body of the building will be the communal facilities.”

This will include a childcare centre, swimming pool, gym and, at the very top, a residents’ club and bar with views towards the CBD.

There will be gardens on top of the shopping centre and a public library.

“Ten years ago everything had to be within three minutes. Today everything has to be within one second. Everything has to be on the doorstep,” Mr Sunito said.

“It is not just a building, not just an apartment, we want it to be a catalyst of transformation in Sydney, a benchmark for others to follow.”

Communal space and facilities are key to the project, he said.

“I think we are becoming more communal. Yes, people want their private space but they want to get to know each other. They are not afraid to share their lives, we are becoming a more tribal culture, like a global tribe.”

Residents will have access to the pool as well as a gym.

The development will be split into two stages of construction

The first, featuring 134 units and 3000sq m of the shopping centre, will be completed by 2021

The second stage, 400 units and the remaining 11,000sq m of the shopping centre, will be finished by 2024.

Crown Group will open its Eastlakes Live display centre on Saturday. It will be open seven days a week, 10am to 4pm by appointment, in Evans Ave. For more details visit eastlakeslive.com.au.
