Danny Said made new mayor of Randwick Council
Randwick Council has chosen a new mayor, Labor councillor Danny Said. It has been a rapid rise for Cr Said who was first elected as a south ward councillor in 2017.

Randwick Council has chosen a new mayor, Labor councillor Danny Said.
Mr Said, 56, has taken over from former mayor Kathy Neilson, who was the first female Labor mayor of Randwick Council and served in the role for 12 months.
Greens councillor Philipa Veitch has also been chosen as the new deputy mayor.
It has been a rapid rise for Cr Said who was first elected as a south ward councillor in 2017 and has stood as deputy mayor for the past year.
Cr Said was made mayor during an extraordinary meeting held on Tuesday night at the council chamber.
Ten councillors voted in support of Mr Said while five voted in support of Liberal councillor Christie Hamilton.
Cr Said said he was extremely proud to be the new Randwick mayor and his biggest focus during the next 12 months would be working to save Yarra Bay, next to Port Botany, from a proposed cruise terminal.
“Our main priority is to save Yarra Bay. That is our main priority,” he said.
Cr Said currently works for Caesarstone which makes benchtops.
Cr Said was born in Matraville and has lived in the council area for most of his life. His wife is a teacher at Maroubra.
All five Labor councillors, all three Greens councillors as well as independent councillors Carlos Da Rocha and Anthony Andrews voted in support of Cr Said.
The four Liberal councillors and independent councillor Noel D’Souza voted for Cr Hamilton.
Cr Said will hold the position of mayor at least until the local government elections in September 2020.
