A popular Instagram recording artist who in the midst of an argument with his ex-partner punched a hole through a laundry door has avoided a criminal conviction.
Dahir Ahmed Ige, known musically as Dayshawn, appeared at Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday where he was due to defend charges of domestic violence related stalk/intimidate and damage property.
After discussions, the prosecution dropped the stalk/intimidate charge and Ige pleaded guilty to the damage property charge.
Agreed facts reveal Ige had argued with his ex-partner in the morning of October 23 in Alexandria. After returning to her apartment later that day, the argument continued and Ige was told to leave.
He then punched a hole through the laundry door, leading to the victim to slap his face.
The woman later gave a statement to police before Ige was arrested and taken to Mascot police station. He declined an interview.
Ige represented himself before Magistrate Miranda Moody on Thursday, where the court heard he had no prior criminal history, worked in logistics and was a musician.
Ms Moody said while the plea wasn’t entered at the “earliest opportunity”, the more serious charge had been withdrawn.
He was ultimately spared a conviction and placed on a 12-month conditional release order with a two-year apprehended violence order put in place to protect the victim.
“Listen to me carefully … in relation to [the victim] … no contact means no contact,” Magistrate Moody said.
“Whatever you do, don’t breach it … [don’t] contact her and move on with your life.”
Ige boasts 27,000 followers on Instagram and announced last year he would be performing at NYE In The Park.
