Coles trials Uber Eats meal delivery at Pagewood

The ever-growing phenomenon of quick food delivery has kicked up a notch, with Coles becoming the first supermarket giant to bring meals to shoppers at Pagewood.
In an Australian first for food delivery, Coles’ partnership with Uber Eats marks a new milestone in the crowded world of food retail.
Shoppers are now able to feast on a selection of Coles meals within 30 minutes of ordering.
Supermarket fresh food director Alex Freudman said he believed the service would help the busy lives of Pagewood residents.
“Coles is committed to making life easier for our customers, and we are thrilled to offer our ready-to-eat and ready-to-heat range for delivery,” he said.
Mr Freudman said southeast customers would be able to order meals including roast chicken, slow-cooked pulled beef, salad bowls and sushi packs, which are just some of the items tempting phone savvy users.
The trial began last week and so far the responses have been positive — Coles Pagewood currently has a 4.4 star rating on the Uber Eats app.
An Uber Eats spokeswoman said first day orders “exceeded expectations”.
She said there was no time frame for when Uber Eats would be rolled out in other Coles stores, as Pagewood was one of their flagship concept stores where new innovations — such as fresh coffee grinders and dispensers, a DIY pizza section and freshly made peanut butter were tested.
Uber Eats representatives hoped to learn enough from the trial to decide how and where to roll out next.
The latest experiment with meal delivery follows the international popularity of US delivery service Postmates — currently not available in Australia — which allows shoppers to order food, groceries and general merchandise from any store in their region.
Coles Pagewood’s partnership with Uber Eats comes just months after another success for the store.
It was ranked the most generous Coles store in the country over Christmas, with its customers raising more than $31,030 in support of Redkite and families affected by cancer.
Pagewood shoppers contributed to more than $1.4 million raised for Redkite nationally through the purchase of Redkite Christmas merchandise, biscuits and cards.
Coles Pagewood is located on the ground floor of Westfield Eastgardens shopping centre on Bunnerong Rd.
