It’s the stuff of nightmares. You return home to find the front door wide open and a shadowy figure inside. What followed was a terrifying incident in which the homeowner wrestled with a burglar down a flight of stairs.

A frightening home invasion in Kingsford turned violent when the offender was confronted and wrestled a victim down a flight of stairs, a court has heard.
Christian Meyers, 38, who has a lengthy criminal record, fronted Waverley Local Court on Wednesday and was sentenced over four separate incidents including the home invasion on March 7.
The agreed facts stated the Maroubra man broke into a share house on Strachan St, Kingsford near UNSW that afternoon and was confronted by two residents returning home.
The two residents found the security door cut and the front door wide open before one of the victims, Feimo Song, called out “who’s inside?”.

Meyers pretended he knew someone at the address before trying to push past the two victims to leave.
Song told his house mate to call police and tried to stop Meyers.
“A wrestle between (Song) and the accused ensued. (Song) and the accused fell down the front stairs of the residence,” the agreed facts stated.
As Meyers got to his feet he threatened the two victims “I have a knife. Don’t follow me”.
Nothing was reported stolen from the home. Police investigated and found a Fanta soft drink can in the house which had been purchased by Meyers at a nearby supermarket, with the purchase captured on CCTV.
Myers, who has struggled with a heroin addiction for much of his life, was arrested the following day and spent five months in custody before being sentenced on Wednesday for break and enter dwelling and common assault.
Meyers’ lawyer stated her client wanted to return to work and get his life back on track and stop his heroin abuse.
“He is someone who has broken his addiction and become clean in the past and it is my submission he can do it again.”
Magistrate Ross Hudson convicted him for the break and enter dwelling offence and sentenced him to a term of imprisonment of 15 months to be served by way of intensive correction in the community, allowing him to be released from prison.
He was also sentenced to a prison term of two months for the common assault charge which he has already served.
Magistrate Hudson also sentenced over three separate incidents which happened in the months leading up to the home invasion.
That included police catching him selling a small amount of heroin and possessing nunchucks at his home in September last year, unlawfully entering a closed kiosk at Maroubra Junction Shopping Centre in January, and driving while disqualified in February.
He was convicted and sentenced to a community correction order for two years for supply prohibited drug and possess prohibited weapon, was convicted for enter enclosed land without lawful excuse, and was sentenced to one month in prison for driving while disqualified which was back dated.
Meyers, who was supported by his partner in court, had pleaded guilty to all charges.
