A $36 million self-storage facility has been approved in Banksmeadow which will feature hundreds of storage units and warehouses.
The facility at 132 Wentworth Ave – near Westfield Eastgardens – will feature 234 self-storage units and 52 warehouses.
The two-storey development will also include 179 car parks and stretch across a large site of almost 2ha.
The Sydney Eastern City Planning Panel approved the development application late last month after it was lodged with Bayside Council in March 2019 by development company Leda Holdings.
“(The facility) will operate 24 hours, seven days a week consistent with surrounding development,” the approved proposal stated.
The development is also located on the border of the Botany industrial area and will be erected opposite Bonnie Doon Golf Club on Wentworth Ave.
Existing buildings, including a warehouse, will be demolished to make way for the new development.
About 200 trees will also be pulled down out of about 330 currently on the site.
“CCTV will be provided within the proposed development to ensure the safety and security of the self-storage units and their occupants at all times,” an assessment report stated.
