Antonio Muollo “took a risk” straight out of high school, launching a small seafood business when he was just 18.
Now, the 25-year-old is opening the second edition of his cult “healthy fast food restaurant”, an arm of his fish empire which turns over a whopping $30m per year.
Get Sashimi, the harbour city’s first ever sashimi bar, is expanding to a second eastern suburbs location this weekend after “going gangbusters” in Bondi last year.
Mr Muollo said after the first restaurant “answered one of Sydney’s needs”, expanding his dine-in and takeaway sashimi bar to Coogee was a no-brainer.
“I think Get Sashimi has answered the need as people were looking for something that was health-conscious, quick and easy,” he said.
“Coogee was the inevitable best suburb (to target next) as an area that appeals to the family-friendly and healthy foodie.
“I think the two levels of seafood heaven – including over 70 varieties of sushi and 20 varieties of fresh sliced sashimi – are going to bring excitement back to Coogee.”
The new store, which will open on September 15, boasts a 10-metre wall-to-wall sashimi bar and can seat up to 50 sushi fish-fanatics.
Mr Muollo said it had been a relief to see Sydney loved seafood as much as he did, especially after shunning university and post-school travel to start his umbrella business, Get Fish, as a teenager.
“I’ve been around fish my whole life,” he said.
“I started working for my dad when I was around eight or 10, packing and stacking ice up in the store in the Sydney Fish Markets.
“I was eyeing a gap in the Sydney market for home-delivered seafood.
“The business has grown quickly and includes a wholesale arm and even a dedicated small fishing fleet around the country.”
Mr Muollo also teased the possibility of the “accessible and affordable shop” opening in more locations next year.
“As we continue to grow Get Sashimi, we will be opening more stores and looking towards a rapid expansion plan in early 2025, including the northern beaches,” he said.
Get Sashimi Coogee opens on Sunday.
