FASTER response times to emergencies, greater collaboration between medics and a future-proofing modular design are virtues of the first new ambulance station to be built in Bankstown in almost 20 years.

NSW PARAMEDICS AND EMERGENCY SERVICES STRAINED BY TIME-WASTING TRIPLE-0 CALLS

Industrial land at 96-102 Canterbury Rd, Bankstown, bought by the State Government, will be used for the purpose built “super ambulance station”, announced on site by Health Minister Jillian Skinner and NSW Ambulance Commissioner Ray Creen last Thursday.

Mr Creen said the station for 30 ambulances and 150 personnel would be capable of responding to all kinds of emergencies.

It will be the hub of operations for its sector, in addition to the existing station on Meredith St, however, it will cater for Bankstown’s growing population from a more strategic location.

Design is being finalised but will be modular for versatility. An eight-week build is expected to start this year.

“The super ambulance station concept gives us the capacity to better align our paramedics and our vehicles to meet patient activity and demand,” Mr Creen said.

“It will ensure we get the right treatment, to the right patient, at the right time, in the right way – every time.”.

Mrs Skinner said while ambulances would spend most of the time on the road from call-out to call-out, the new station would be essential for replenishments of stocks, for crew training and faster response times.

East Hills state Liberal MP Glenn Brookes said the new station would be a modern, more comfortable base from which paramedics can get on the road.

The Bankstown station is one of five the government intends to build over five years.
