Petbarn offers unique dating experience for Valentine’s Day

While many are focusing on the love and adoration of their fellow humans, consider dating a pet for Valentine’s Day.

While many are focusing on the love and adoration of their fellow humans, spare a thought for the animals out there this Valentine’s Day.

Petbarn Casula has teamed up with RSPCA NSW, and the Pet Foundation, to provide prospective pet parents the chance to meet some loveable pets in need of a new home at a unique pet dating event.

Benny, 2, is a black cat, and some people are superstitious because of his colour, but staff member Kristen Green said he was gorgeous.

“But watch out, he’ll try and steal your food,” Mrs Green said.

Mrs Green has six cats and two dogs of her own, and they are all rescue animals.

She said it was hard to know an animal’s history, especially if the animal was a stray and not microchipped.

But she said while the rescue animals were in their store, they spent time with them to get to know their personality.

“Benny is very playful. He rolls on his back and loves cuddles,” she said.

“If you’re willing to put some time into him, you’ll get the rewards and affection.”

Other animals RSPCA NSW has up for adoption at the moment include Sasha, who loves cuddles, feathers and food, or there is Bonnie, who loves nothing more than a good ear scratch.

The meet and greet at Petbarn Casula is on Saturday, from 11am-3pm, and will include a handful of animals for store visitors to meet.

More than 210 pets were rehomed across Australia at last year’s event, and Mrs Green said their store had adopted out a lot of cats.

“Especially over Christmas. It’s nice that people are looking at the alternative and not just going straight to breeders,” she said.

All animals are desexed, microchipped and registered, and new pet parents receive a welcome pack.
