COLEBEE shoppers will soon forgo plastic bags when the Woolworths supermarket at Greenway Village rolls out the ban on April 4.
The ban is expected to see the removal of 3.2 billion lightweight plastic bags across Australia.
Along with Marayong and Dural, the Colebee supermarket will be among the first to implement the ban before bags are scrapped nationwide on June 30.
In July, Woolworths said it would no longer offer lightweight plastic bags.
Customers will have to bring their own bag or pay 15 cents for a reusable bag.
Woolworths Greenway Village store manager Christopher Holland said:
“We appreciate this is a big change for our customers and our team is already working to make this transition as smooth and simple as possible,’’ he said.
“Our move to be among the first stores to make the change shows we are committed to taking our environmental and local community responsibilities seriously.”
The store will implement reminders about the ban and staff will announce the changes regularly.
