A man, 72, has died in hospital after he was struck by an out-of-control car while waiting at a bus stop in The Ponds with his wife a week ago.

A man has died in hospital a week after being struck by an out-of-control car while waiting at a bus stop in The Ponds with his wife.

The 72-year-old man was waiting for a bus on Stanhope Parkway, opposite Owl Park, when a Ford Focus struck him about 2.30pm on Friday, March 29.

It is alleged the car mounted the gutter, hit a pole and subsequently hit the man who was waiting for the bus with his wife.

The man died in hospital on Saturday.

The man was unconscious when paramedics arrived and he was treated for head and upper body injuries before being taken to Westmead Hospital. He died in hospital on Saturday.

NSW Ambulance Chief Inspector Brian Parsell told the Times, after the crash, that the man was a local.

“The man lives close by and walked to the bus stop, probably regularly,” he said.

The driver of the car, a 47-year-old woman from The Ponds, was charged with dangerous driving causing grievous bodily harm and negligent driving.

Investigations are continuing and further charges could be made against the driver.

She will appear at Blacktown Local Court on Monday, April 15.

A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

The man is the second pedestrian to be killed on Stanhope Parkway in under a year after Stanhope Gardens man Clarrie Challis was struck by a car while he crossed the road on his way to a bus stop on July 16, 2018. His partner Susan West was also badly injured.
