IT’S BEEN one blistering ride for Cody Brewczynski, Australia’s newest karting champion.
The 15-year-old Acacia Gardens racer has worked long and hard to achieve his target and now wants to take on international rivals on their own tracks.
Cody, nominated for the Junior Sports Star Award — sponsored by Rebel — will be taking his impressive form to the Rotax Max Challenge Grand Finals in Samo, Italy from October 15-22.
“Winning the Australian title (13-15 age group) in the Rotax Pro Tour was an unbelievable feeling as it’s been a long eight-year wait for me,” said Cody, who overcome a cracked rib en route to the title.
“I was shocked to win the title as it tough and is run in NSW, South Australia, Queensland and Victoria.
“I am now looking forward to competing and hopefully winning the Rotax championships (13-15 years section) in Italy as this is my first major international event.
“I won a title in New Zealand earlier this year but it will be tougher in Italy where I will have to qualify from a field of 80 to make the final cut.
“It’s all every exciting for me and I will have my parents and pop with me for support.”
It was from his grandfather — who worked on sprint race cars — that Cody picked up his love for racing, and now the teenager wants to can catch the eye of international teams in Europe.
Cody is confident but not cocky and is also keen to show respect to those around him.
“My eventual goal is to make it to the supercar competition and here too sponsorship is very important, which is why I take the trouble to focus on speaking well with adults,” Cody said.
“If I do really well at the Italian championships, I can hopefully catch the eye of one of the big European teams and compete there.
“I like to thank the sponsors and my supporters for helping me to get to where I am today.”
