A ROUSE HILL man is due to face Parramatta Court charged with the murder of his wife in 2013, after she was doused in petrol and set alight.

Murder charge laid after woman dies from burns in 2013

A “dogged pursuit of the truth” has led to police arresting the husband of a woman who died in 2013 after she was doused in petrol and set alight, says a north Sydney Commander.

Hills Superintendent Rob Critchlow addressed media at Castle Hill Police Station this morning to commend the work of his detectives who he said worked tirelessly to arrest Kulwinder Singh.

This morning Supt Critchlow said Mr Singh was expected to be charged with the murder of his wife today, after the death of the woman at her Rouse Hill home on Greensborough Ave on December 2.

At the time of the incident, neighbours said they heard a woman scream for help and then saw her in flames.

“The Hills Local Area Command has worked tirelessly and since that time we have gathered evidence of what actually occurred,” he said.

“The investigation has been painstaking in its scope and today we can announce we have arrested a 37-year-old man.

“He is now assisting detectives with their inquiries and will soon be charged with one count of murder.”

Parwinder Kaur died a day after the incident, where she suffered burns to 90 per cent of her body.

An inquest into her death commenced in 2015 and was put on hold in November that year when Deputy State Coroner Sharon Freund told the court she was satisfied a “known person” had committed an indictable offence.

Supt Critchlow today said the matter was “very complex” and said the advice of a number of specialist legal professionals, fire services staff and forensic officers were sought during the investigation.

At the time of the incident, neighbours said they heard a woman scream for help before they went outside of their homes to find the woman run from her front door covered in flames as Mr Singh followed attempting to put the flames out.

“There was a very distinct smell, and when I went to the scene I [saw] the lady was not moving,” a woman who lived nearby said.

“She was just laying there; the fire had been put out but we were then waving our hands because she still had smoke coming off her.”

Mr Singh is expected to face Parramatta court today.
