CLIVE Hay’s latest album, Remembering Savannah, is a throwback to his life in South Africa where he had a thriving career in music and entertainment.

Now based in Quakers Hill, the guitar and piano playing entertainer said he got the inspiration for the album when he was going through old tapes.

This is Hay’s first album since the release of his last single in 2009, A Man Without A Country.

Hay will also help launch a new entertainment spot at the Lynwood County Club, Pitt Town, from this weekend.

“The idea for the album started when I began rummaging around my old tapes and demos and found some from my old band back in Johannesburg, which was named Savannah,” said the 57-year-old singer, who launches his album on Saturday, September 3.

“I decided to post some of the tapes on Facebook and I got a huge reaction which was positive.

“I thought that I could get some of the old songs together for a new album, which has taken me around 14 months to put together.

“My music is mainly pop, rock, and an element of folk while I have also done contemporary Christian music. I haven’t decided on releasing any singles yet but If I have to choose which of the songs from my new album to release as singles, I think they would be More than The Other Girls, The Torment of Frank Norman, and The Catcher in the Rye.

“The Torment of Frank Norman is more personal and reflective but with a theme — schizophrenia and mental illness.”

The father of three plays in gigs around the Hills with Soul Tattoo where he is accompanied by Sabrina Alison and Julie Knott.

“I have been in the music industry for 37 years,” said Hay, who emigrated in 2000 and has released more than 35 of his own songs.

If all goes well, Hay’s music will be played on local radio stations and win him more admirers.
