Majestic Bianca Douglas off to world junior figure skating championships in Canada

BIANCA Douglas picked up her love of figure skating while she was at preschool and is now an Australian champion.
The St John Paul II Catholic College Year 12 student is a valuable member of the Majestic Ice Australia team which took out the Australian junior synchronised figure skating crown in Melbourne recently.
Their reward is representing Australia at the World Junior Synchronized Skating Championships in Mississauga, Canada on March 10 and 11.
Her enthusiasm and delight at winning her first national championships against the best in the land is obvious and now she is setting sights on another major goal of hers.
“Winning the title is very much overwhelming because we were very much the underdogs in the Australian championships,” the 17-year-old Baulkham Hills local said.
“It was a tough competition and I was delighted we won.
“It’s really a team effort and the team works together and have a goal.
“It’s a really a big dream of mine to compete in a world championships and we will give it our best and see how it goes.
“I have to thank our manager Virginia Lynch for her great support for the team.”
Bianca mixes her figure skating drills with physical conditioning and trains thrice a week at the Canterbury and Penrith ice rinks.
Bianca, who is sitting for her HSC later this year, has competed at the Mozart Cup in Austria and the French Cup in France, both in 2015.
“One of main goals after competing at the international level is to move up another level in competition and go overseas in a couple of years,” said Bianca, who gave up football to concentrate on figure skating.
The Majestic Ice Australia squad is scheduled to leave for their world juniors on March 1.
