ROUSE Hill couple Kim and Michael Iori have been overwhelmed by the “magnificent” support they have received during their fifth charity dinner for brain cancer research.
Aaron’s Wish charity dinner was held on Saturday night at the Le Cordon Bleu restaurant at the TAFE NSW Ryde campus.
The night featured up to 200 attendees with special guest speakers neurosurgeon Professor Brian Owler and brain tumour survivor Ann Willimington.
Mrs Willimington was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2008 and given 18 months to live, but that did not stop her from wanting to do something to help raise money for a cure for brain cancer, so she started the Music For Life charity which has raised up to $350,000.
Prof Owler was the surgeon who operated on Aaron Iori, whose battle with fatal brain cancer has inspired his parents’ fundraising drive.
“Things have improved with regards to brain cancer as surgery is becoming better and more accurate, and survival rates have improved,” Prof Owler said.
“However, the breakthrough which is needed still remains elusive, which is why events like this are so important to support.”
The evening is set to bring the total raised for brain cancer research by the Aaron’s Wish charity to more than $200,000.
In honour of the local charity Swane’s Nurseries in Dural have developed the Aaron’s Wish rose which can be purchased via aaronswish@bigpond.com
