Kings star Jason Cadee desperate to find angel who comforted him after his near-fatal accident

SYDNEY Kings basketball star Jason Cadee could have been killed seven years ago when his car was hit by a semi-trailer and was trapped for 90 minutes. Now he wants to track down the woman who helped him.

Sydney Kings star Jason Cadee searches for Ida

SYDNEY Kings basketball star Jason Cadee does not know how he escaped a near fatal accident on the M7 nearly seven years ago but one thing he clearly remembers is of a caring angel who braved traffic across the busy highway to stay and comfort him until the paramedics arrived.

Now Cadee, who is enjoying a successful season with the Sydney Kings, is trying to find the guardian angel whom he only knows as Ida.

The 25-year-old point guard was just two months into a playing contract with Gold Coast Blaze in 2010 when a semi-trailer smashed into his Holden on the busy highway on July 12 near Quakers Hill, shattering his pelvis.

He was wedged against the centre console, leaving him pinned inside the car for 90 minutes.

Mr Cadee passed out but when he came to a caring stranger was seating next to him.

He said Ida had risked her own life crossing several lanes of traffic on the freeway to keep him calm and conscious while waiting for the ambulance crews to arrive.

“Ida was the name of my father’s mother and that’s why I can remember it,” Mr Cadee said.

“However, I don’t remember anything else about Ida though I think she could have been in her 30s or 40s at that time.

“She spoke to me, keeping me calm and talking about things other than my accident.

“I am so grateful to her and I just like to find her and thank her for being there for me at that time.

“It’s not easy for someone to do what she did and help others.”

Mr Cadee said one of the reasons he hadn’t made any previous attempts to find her was that he had not been ready to speak about the traumatic experience but felt it was now time.

“I am more mature now and I am ready to speak about the accident.

“Maybe my younger self just wanted to distance itself from the accident.”

He said he would like to thank his good Samaritan and bring her to a Kings game.

Mr Cadee, who helped Bankstown Bruins win Waratah league in 2016, gets his basketball genes from his mum Debbie (nee Lee) and dad Robbie, who both represented Australia at the Olympics.

Mr Cadee will be a key part of the Kings’ crucial games at home against New Zealand Breakers on January 29 and February 4 against Melbourne United at Qudos Bank Arena.
