WORK is steadily progressing on the Sydney Metro Trains Facility (SMTF) at Rouse Hill as the $8.3 billion Sydney Metro Northwest snakes closer to its planned opening in two years time.
The Rouse Hill site — which has a futuristic design — is where Sydney’s new metro fleet will be stabled and maintained.
According to Transport for NSW, construction is on track with around 6km of track already laid.
Nearly 900 tonnes of structural steel has been used in its construction of the SMTF and more than 2.8km of overhead wiring installed to power the trains.
“The maintenance building is where trains will be lifted to allow for regular inspections and maintenance,” a Transport for NSW spokesman told the Rouse Hill Times.
“The new administration building will house the Operations Control Centre, from where the new fully-automated Sydney Metro network will be operated from.
“Around 6km of railway tracks have been laid at the SMTF, part of the overall total of 108km of track which will eventually be installed on Sydney Metro Northwest, which is stage one.”
According to the NSW Government plans, trains will run every four minutes in each direction during peak periods when the Sydney Metro starts operation in 2019.
There will be 13 metro stations including Rouse Hill, Bella Vista, Castle Hill, Cherrybrook, Kellyville, Showground Rd, and 4,000 new commuter car spaces.
According to Transport for NSW, the stations will feature Australian-first state-of-the-art platform screen doors to keep objects like prams away from the edge and allow trains to get in and out of stations faster.
The station will feature a road overbridge, to be built midway between Tallawong Rd and Cudgegong Rd, a village centre, a pedestrian bridge across the rail line and new traffic lights off Cudgegong Rd and Tallawong Rd.
■ Meanwhile, from March 24-31, there will be road closures from 10pm-5am at the intersection of Windsor and Old Windsor roads, Rouse Hill, to allow the construction of the Skytrain viaduct.
The 4km Skytrain will run between Rouse Hill and Kellyville and is between 10-13 metres above ground.
