FOR a majority of Australian families, power bills often give them a shock but it was just the reverse for the Pfitzner family at Kellyville Ridge who became the first in Australia to invest in a Telsa Powerwall.
Having paid $660 for his quarterly electricity bill for the same time last year, Nick Pfitzner had to do a double take when he saw the bill for the same time this year was just $40.46.
The whole powerwall and panels, installed by Natural Solar this January, set back Mr Pfitzner around $16,000 but he now reckons they can cover the costs in 10 years.
“It feels great as we never had solar before,” said Mr Pfitzner, who works in IT.
“The bill is 90 per cent of what we received last year and really good as we were told to expect around 80 per cent.
“We are still using the same equipment as last year and haven’t cut back on anything though during autumn we don’t use the pool.
The full Powerwall system stores solar energy during sunlight hours, powering homes using electricity generated from solar panels or from the grid when utility rates are low.
The Tesla Powerwall battery can store up to six hours of power and includes solar roof panels, an inverter, battery and software.
Natural Solar’s managing director Chris Williams said the sharp decrease in the power bill for the local family proves their technology is working very well.
“It’s extraordinary to see such a significant decrease for the Pfitzner family and clearly demonstrates why we are experiencing such strong demand for our home and commercial battery storage solutions,” Mr Williams said.
“As one of the first residents in Australia to have their Tesla Powerwall installed by Natural Solar, we can safely say the proof is in the figures.”
