MOTORISTS across Rouse Hill are continuing to park illegally despite ongoing efforts of the Hills Shire Council.

Council officers have been forced to take on regular patrols of several streets in the Rouse Hill Town Centre, including Peppin, Romney, Galara and Bunda streets, as well as Civic Way to fine motorists parked illegally.

The council has also experimented with painting lines to identify no parking zones but a report to councillors revealed neither options had proven effective.

The report revealed the high demand for street parking in the area was the major reason.

North Ward councillor Robyn Preston said staff had photographed countless vehicles parked illegally during patrols.

“There is a proposal for the installation of 29 ‘No Parking’ signs in the Rouse Hill precinct,” she said. “A total of 13 warnings were issued over a six-month period, which actually seems surprisingly low in these circumstances.

“This is an issue of illegal parking. It makes it very hard for other vehicles to use these streets safely because people are parking illegally.”

Councillors will decide on their next course of action to prevent illegal parking in the Rouse Hill Town Centre at a workshop.

More than 60 complaints were made to the Hills Shire Council by residents, Hills Shire mayor Michelle Byrne said.

“Council doesn’t want to spend its time and resources fining people for illegal parking; we would rather work with the community to educate them about where they can and can’t park legally,” Cr Byrne told the Times.

She said illegal parking was causing safety concerns for residents and motorists and said ‘No Parking’ signs might be an option.
