SEVERAL homes and businesses in Kellyville and Rouse Hill will be able to connect to the high speed National Broadband network (NBN) when it rolls out this week.

The long-awaited era of fast broadband will connect around 11,500 premises in Kellyville and more than 5,000 in Rouse Hill from this week, with more premises being covered in the following months.

It has taken the Hills three years to catch up on Riverstone, which was one of the first suburbs in NSW to receive the NBN in July 2013.

NBN spokeswoman Marcela Balart said residents should check if their streets can receive the faster service which is expected to be available from this Thursday.

She said the rollout is being done in sections following the successful services launched in rural and non-metro areas of Australia.

Construction is under way in Castle Hill, which includes parts of Bella Vista and Cherrybrook. More than 2600 will be able to connect by December with an additional 28,000 progressively able to connect over the course of 2017.

The majority of the build for the Hills district is part of the fixed line footprint of the NBN.

“We are providing the new services for the areas which need it the most,” Ms Balart said.

“The switch on means homes and businesses in the Hills district will be able to access fast and reliable broadband, making it one of the first areas in Greater Sydney to be NBN-ready, particularly in Sydney’s northern region.

“These residents join more than three million others across Australia that are currently able to enjoy the benefits of the NBN network, with more than 985,000 of those in NSW.

“Fast and reliable broadband has the potential to fuel growth and drive improvements to local economies, businesses and homes, bringing new opportunities to the whole country.”

Ms Balart said the NBN rollout is gaining momentum across the country, providing homes and businesses “with access to internet speeds and bandwidth not seen before across Australia”.

“It will be vital in bridging Australia’s digital divide and will allow people to compete on a local, national and global stage,” Ms Balart said.

“It will also be key in meeting our future needs.”
