SITTING in a creperie in Paris munching on fresh crepes filled with strawberries and cream, an idea struck cafe owner Kylie Vella.
Could she bring that authentic French experience to her local Windsor?
Inspired by her Europe trip, Vella opened the doors to Crepe Escape almost a year ago.
“We were in Paris going back two years ago and we were in this little crepe place… and we thought, ‘How amazing would it be to create something like this in Windsor?’,” she said.
Vella, who also runs nearby cafe Simon’s, wanted to create a French provincial style space and focused on a decor of venetian plaster walls, heavy curtains, wooden tables and vintage tableware, with a large chandelier completing the French-chic atmosphere.
The menu focuses on a variety of savoury and sweet crepes, as well as newly introduced traditional French mains for dinner from the popular crispy skinned pork belly to fillet mignon.
“We’ve extended into more of the classic style,” Vella said.
Guests can dine for breakfast, lunch, dinner or cocktails and crepes — the kitchen pumps out between 300 and 400 freshly spun crepes on any given weekend.
The 65-seat restaurant is usually full on weekends for dinner and brunch and it is easy to see why.
It may be a local secret, but word is starting to spread about this cosy little French creperie in the heart of picturesque Windsor.
