Coronavirus: Blacktown region records no new cases for three days

The number of cases in Blacktown is approaching triple figures – making it one of the worst hit areas in the Sydney. However the latest figures suggest the tide may be turning. FIND OUT HOW MANY CASES ARE IN YOUR SUBURB.

The coronavirus curve appears to be flattening in Blacktown City with the region recording no new cases for the third consecutive day.

As of April 8, there are 98 cases in the Blacktown Local Government Area, with almost one quarter of these linked to a single childcare centre cluster in Blacktown.

These figures show a possible flattening of the COVID-19 curve, with the last local case confirmed on April 5.

Despite a rapid rise in cases last week, Cases in the region more than doubled last week, surging from 46 on March 28 to almost 94 on April 4.

Despite this initial surge, numbers have stabilised, with only four new cases between April 4 and 5, and no fresh cases since.

The 2148 postcode, which includes the suburbs of Blacktown, Prospect, Arndell Park, Huntingwood, Marayong and Kings Park now has 28 confirmed cases, an increase of just a single case since Saturday.

Quakers Hill and Acacia Gardens also had an extra case, bringing the total to 15.

The 2761 postcode, covering Plumpton, Glendenning, Dean Park, Oakhurst, Hassall Grove and Colebee, now has 12 cases.

The Mt Druitt area, including the suburbs of Minchinbury, Hebersham, Emerton, Dharruk, Blackett, Bidwill, Willmot, Whalan, Tregear, Shalvey and Lethbridge Park, has eight confirmed cases.

Meanwhile, NSW Health continues to investigate a cluster at the Rose of Sharon Childcare Centre in Stephen St, Blacktown, which is one of a dozen clusters across the state.

The centre is linked to 25 COVID-19 cases, including seven staff, six children and 12 secondary cases.

The region’s locally-acquired cases have also stabilised, with 14 people contracting the virus from an unknown source.

The Blacktown Local Government Area has the fifth-highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases across all council areas in NSW.

As of 8pm on Tuesday, there were 2734 confirmed cases in NSW and 21 deaths.

4 CASES: 2769 — The Ponds.

3 CASES: 2768 — Glenwood, Stanhope Gardens, Parklea.
