SHE may be new to the world of oil painting but that didn’t stop Casey Sessions’ work being featured as a Young Archibald finalist.
The 16-year-old Norwest Christian College student’s first oil painting, which was inspired by her older sister Erin, was featured as part of the Art Gallery NSW competition for 2018.
“When I first started working on it I was just experimenting with oil paints, I decided that I wanted to paint my sister,” Casey said.
“In Year 7, I went to see the Young Archibald finalists and always thought that I wanted to one day be featured in the competition.”
Casey said her sister had moved out of home.
“I missed her after she moved out, so I wanted to capture a moment in time with her,” she said.
The Acacia Gardens artist juggled her art and Year 11 studies to complete the piece in a month.
“I would paint whenever I had a spare few seconds,” she said.
“I have transformed my sister’s old room and the loungeroom into a creative space for me to work.
“My nan was a painter so she inspired me. She … painted animals and wildlife.”
