A $27 MILLION upgrade for Hambledon Rd, Schofields will help fast-track the delivery of new homes according to Planning Minister Anthony Roberts.
The upgrade of the arterial road is part of a $33 million joint project between the NSW Government and Blacktown Council.
Mr Roberts said the plan would support the delivery of 8500 new homes in the Alex Avenue Precinct which was finalised in 2010 and proposed the relocation of Schofields station and revitalisation of the town centre.
“The road will be widened to a wonderful four-lane divided road from Stanhope Pwy and Burdekin Rd through to Schofields Rd,” Mr Roberts said. “When completed, the new road corridor will improve essential transport linkages, including public transport, with regionally significant access to a new Schofields Railway Station which is set to become a major transport node in the system.”
Riverstone state Liberal MP Kevin Conolly supported the announcement of the funding.
“First home buyers identify this area as an opportunity to create a home for their families and it’s a really positive sign that we are seeing an investment in infrastructure,” Mr Conolly said.
“The road works will make life easier for residents, improving the journey between home and school or home and work for many families.”
Blacktown Mayor Stephen Bali said the upgrade will help cater for the growing community.
“Hambledon Road is a high capacity urban road and its reconstruction and widening is essential to improving access within the Alex Avenue Precinct to Schofields Railway Station, Schofields Road and local schools,” Cr Bali said.
“Once completed the new road will act as a regional road network helping to move people through our roads, cater to future growth, improve traffic conditions and unlock land for housing development.”
The project is due for completion by the end of 2019.
