Rodney Craig Grills: Police allegedly seize $27k in cash and drugs worth $10k during RBT stop at Farley

It was a garden-variety vehicle stop in the Hunter which has allegedly uncovered tens of thousands of dollars in cash as well as drugs worth another $10k.

Police will allege that it was the nervous nature of the ute’s driver - appearing to hide things under seats and sit on a bag - during a typical afternoon random breath test which first raised the suspicions of highway patrol officers.

They had pulled over the Toyota HiLux on Old North Road at Farley, a rural thoroughfare west of Maitland, when they first observed Lochinvar man Rodney Craig Grills in the driver’s seat.

Police will allege Grills continued to fidget and was seen placing bags underneath his seat before he was spoken to.

Grills, 38, was then searched and officers allegedly found $7000 cash in his pockets.

A search of the car allegedly found a further $20,000 in a green bag as well as 28 grams of cocaine and 11 grams of methamphetamine.

Police allege the estimated street value of the drugs was about $10,000.

Grills was later charged with two counts of supplying a prohibited drug (indictable amount), dealing in the proceeds of crime and possessing a prohibited drug.

He faced Maitland Local Court on Thursday where he was refused bail to reappear on February 9.
