Back in April, News Corp made the tough decision to place its community and regional print titles into suspension as the effects of the COVID-19 lockdown took hold of the economy.

It was an opportunity to take stock of the situation for our many community newspapers and assess their viability going forward in a post-pandemic market.

During this period, it became apparent that there was a market to bring some of the titles out of suspension once coronavirus lockdown restrictions began to ease, according to Publisher, News Prestige Community Clare Starling.

“Our review of regional and community titles found recently that print editions (for titles also offering digital) can be sustainable for the immediate future where the community has a sizeable scale, a mix of industries, education facilities, business and government services, and obviously advertising clients who still see value in print and the demographics it reaches for them,” Ms Starling said, adding that the printed editions will reach more than 80 per cent of households in their areas and have a strong focus on lifestyle, home and real estate content.

“Like many I have grown up with these community brands, found my first car, understood what was happening in the community I chose to raise my children and bought a home,” she said. “I’m proud and excited to return this strong and vibrant community masthead in print.”

These prestige publications are the only three to return in print form. The feedback we received from you was that you loved and missed your local paper and looked forward to enjoying the joys of the print experience once again.

The return to print occurs alongside our ongoing digital presence, where you can get access to all the latest news online at any time of day.

It is a joy to be back in your homes as well as online and an absolute privilege on a personal level to be taking up the role of editor for the next stage of our print journey.
