A western Sydney indoor golf venue has raised more money than any other business in Australia as part of a new fundraising initiative for sick children.
X-Golf Penrith was one of 25 venues across Australia to participate in the inaugural Starlight Scramble to raise money for the Starlight Children’s Foundation, a charity that aims to brighten the lives of seriously ill children and teenagers.
The campaign ran in September and October, during which time the venue donated half of every $140 hire fee for its indoor game simulator to the initiative.
Other local businesses also donated $2500 worth of raffle prizes.
The campaign raised $7500 nationally, which is enough to fund one Starlight Wish for one sick child.
Forty-eight golfers took part in the fundraiser from Penrith and raised $1840, the most of any venue across the country.
Penrith golfer and fundraising participant Kirk Perkins, 33, said “everyone deserves happiness”.
“Sometimes all it can take is a kind word, but if a donation of any amount can help to achieve that for someone who needs it, I’m always willing to help out for the right cause,” he said.
X-Golf Penrith franchisee Kylie Newton said the company was “determined” to make an impact.
“It’s such a worthwhile cause,” she said.
“There’s an outstanding group of community members here at X-Golf Penrith, so it’s no surprise that we were able to make such a significant contribution to the overall initiative.”
Starlight Children’s Foundation state partnerships manager Danica Bennett said the foundation could not put on programs without the support and generosity of other businesses.
“The X-Golf Starlight Scramble was an opportunity for players to have lots of fun while contributing to a meaningful cause,” she said.
“This unique initiative beautifully combined the spirit of friendly competition in a social environment while helping bring joy and comfort to seriously ill children, because Starlight knows happiness matters to sick kids’ health.
“We can’t wait to see what X-Golfers can do next year.”
