“D-Day has come” – that was the concern for western Sydney residents on Monday afternoon after two fighter jets flew at low altitude over Penrith and the Blue Mountains.
A social media post on a local community page sparked concerns in the Penrith area as Facebook commenters stated that their “hearts are racing” and “D-Day has come”.
A spokesman from the Department of Defence revealed Royal Australian Air Force personnel gathered at RAAF Base Glenbrook in the Blue Mountains to mark the change of command from Air Marshal Darren Goldie to Air-Vice Marshal Glen Braz as Air Commander Australia.
“Air Commander Australia is responsible for the provision of operational support to the Chief of Air Force and joint force, by preparing with workforce to generate, project and sustain air power effects in support of Australia’s national interests,” the spokesman said.
“Royal Australian A Force f-35A Lightning II aircraft from No. 3 Squadron conducted a fly past over the ceremony at RAAF Base Glenbrook to mark the occasion.”
