Plans for an $18m revitalisation of Westfield Penrith have been given council’s tick of approval with the High St centre set for a ‘luxury’ cinema and triple-decker dining precinct.
Originally lodged by Scentre Group in April, the upgrades, which were approved last Thursday, will deliver five new restaurants along with two luxury movie theatres.
The existing Hoyts Cinema will gain two ‘LUX’ auditoriums and a LUX lounge, promising “a premium dine-in cinema experience” with a luxury menu and premium wine selection.
The future dining precinct will be set out over three levels with three eateries joining the existing drag of venues on Riley St, a rooftop bar and restaurant taking residence on level three and a single venue on level two.
According to a planner, “particular attention” has been paid to upgrading the Riley St precinct, to create “an aesthetically pleasing, visually interesting and modern built form.”
Planning documents concluded by saying the upgrades would establish Westfield as Penrith’s “leading entertainment and leisure precinct” while boosting the night time economy through “diverse entertainment and leisure offerings”.
The decision follows the centre’s most recent round of upgrades which were completed in November last year with an estimated cost of $33m which saw “leisure-tainment” venues Holey Moley and Archie Bros open on Riley St.
