Julien Stevens: Werrington man charged over alleged child abuse material

Detectives allegedly found child abuse material on electronic devices at a home in western Sydney following a tip-off from United States authorities.

A western Sydney man has been charged after he allegedly uploaded child abuse material online.

Julien Joseph Stevens, 28, of Werrington was arrested by the Australian Federal Police in March following a tip-off from US authorities.

Police began investigating last November after the US National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children identified an Australian user who had allegedly uploaded the abuse material online.

The online account was allegedly traced back to the Werrington man.

Child protection investigators raided his home and seized three mobile phones, an iPad, USB, computer and hard drive.

Police allege child abuse material was found on several of the devices.

Stevens was charged with five counts of possessing or controlling child abuse material obtained using a carriage service.

He was granted strict bail and faced Penrith Local Court on Friday. He will return to court in July.

If convicted, the offences carry up to 15 years in jail.
