Residents of Warragamba now have access to better internet technology thanks to one of Australia’s largest telecommunications companies.
Optus switched on 5G services in the area this week for the first time as part of a rollout across the country.
According to an Optus spokesperson, 5G internet can reach speeds of up to 153 Mbps, and is guaranteed to be at least 50 Mbps.
Optus Head of 5G, Harvey Wright, said the technology would be used hand-in-hand with the National Broadband Network to provide reliable internet in Warragamba.
“We believe that 5G home internet and NBN complement each other,” he said.
“Some customers want a take-home service that can achieve high speed without the need for wiring up their property, and 5G is the perfect solution for this.
“5G introduces faster speeds so you can download movies, games and other large files in minutes instead of hours, quicker reaction times so there’s less loading and waiting, and bigger and better bandwidth so more device can be connected at the same time.”
5G was first launched by Optus in early 2019, and has since been rolled out in more than 900 sites across the country.
“Our 5G rollout is a multi-year rollout, and Warragamba is among the first 1000 Optus 5G sites to be switched on in Australia,” Mr Wright said.
