Champion archer Madeline Boyle is about to make her dream come true.
In just six years, the 17-year-old member of the Penrith City Archers at Werrington shot her way to the top and will represent Australia in The Vegas Shoot which kicks off on Friday.
She will then fly to South Dakota to represent Australia at the Yankton 2018 World Archery Indoor Championship which starts on February 14.
Boyle took up archery with her father, Todd Boyle, just for fun when she was 11.
“From then on I loved the sport and my father and I continue to shoot together six years on,” she said.
At 13, she joined the Penrith City Archers and traded in her soccer cleats and cricket bat for the compound bow. At 15, she won the NSW Target Championships.
As she prepares to challenge the best archers in the world, Boyle has one thing in mind — “My ultimate goal is to make the top ten but most importantly I want to be happy with how I shoot, possibly even come out with a personal best,” Boyle said.
“I am very proud to have been selected to represent Australia for the world championships in South Dakota.
“In the past year I would have never thought I would have been able to achieve so much ... It’s like a dream come true.”
Boyle will head to Victoria in April for the outdoor events — the 2018 National Youth Archery Championships and the 2018 Trans Tasman.
