Sport has a new home in Sydney’s west with the launch of SWR Triple 9 FM’s sports arm, SWR Sport.
Football, basketball and baseball will now be broadcast by the local radio station across 99.9 FM and the station’s online streaming services.
As well as being an official broadcaster of the Western Sydney Wanderers, SWR Triple 9 will also cover Sydney Kings and Illawarra Hawks games throughout the NBL season plus playoffs.
Baseball fans will also have a new place to call home with SWR Triple 9 securing the rights to Sydney Blue Sox games for the coming Australian Baseball League season.
“Without question this is the most ambitious sporting slate that a local station has ever taken on,” SWR Triple 9 Head of Sport Julian Daw said.
“But the challenge is something we all enjoy and relish.
“We’re bringing the world of sport back to our listeners in the West with a local voice and that’s something that hasn’t been done in a long time.”
The local station has already made its mark on the biggest stage possible after producing its own call of Wednesday night’s Socceroos World Cup Qualifier.
“We’re a young group of broadcasters that are trying to get a toehold in a very
competitive industry, so an opportunity to be a part of something like this is an honour,” Daw added.
“To have A-League, W-League, NBL and ABL is quite an achievement for a non-profit local station to acquire in the space of a few weeks. We hope that the community really gets behind us because I think this is something we can all be proud of.”
